National Police Week

CITY OF ST. ANTHONY PROCLAMATION

National Police Week – May 10–16, 2026

 

WHEREAS, there are more than 800,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the dedicated members serving the City of St. Anthony, City of Ashton and Fremont County Sheriff; and

WHEREAS, since the first recorded law enforcement line‑of‑duty death in 1786, more than 24,000 officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice; and

WHEREAS, the names of 24,412 fallen heroes are now engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., representing federal, state, local, tribal, campus, and military law enforcement officers from across the nation; and

WHEREAS, an additional 345 names of fallen officers will be added to the Memorial, including officers who died in the line of duty in 2025 as well as officers from prior years whose sacrifices were newly confirmed;  and

WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of these fallen officers will be honored during the 38th Annual Candlelight Vigil on the evening of May 13, 2026, held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and in a ceremony in front of St Anthony City Hall; and

WHEREAS, the Candlelight Vigil is part of National Police Week, which in 2026 will be observed from May 10 through May 16, 2026; and

WHEREAS, May 15 is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day, in honor of all fallen officers and their families, United States flags should be flown at half‑staff on this date:


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Donald Powell, Mayor of the City of St. Anthony, do hereby proclaim May 10 through May 16, 2026, as National Police Week in St. Anthony, and urge all residents to join in honoring the dedicated law enforcement officers who faithfully serve our community and communities across the nation.

BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that May 15, 2026, shall be observed as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in the City of St. Anthony, and that the United States Flag shall be flown at half‑staff at all City facilities on this date in solemn remembrance of our fallen heroes.
