I think it would be appropriate to provide a brief public clarification to address a couple of recurring concerns being raised online.

The greenbelt trail runs primarily on BLM land, with some segments on private property where landowners have granted permission for public use. While the land itself is not owned by the City, the Greenways were created by the City of St. Anthony and are maintained by the City for public recreation.

The trail camera mentioned in the Facebook post was placed by a concerned local citizen who walks the greenbelt nearly every day. He has observed ongoing vandalism along the trail, including informational signs being damaged, benches being thrown into the river, and benches being stolen.

The City was aware that the camera was placed. This individual attended City Council meetings on a couple of occasions to express his concerns about the vandalism and informed the Council that he intended to place a trail camera in an effort to identify those responsible. The camera was not placed by the City.

Each year, the City spends several thousand dollars of taxpayer funds repairing vandalism and maintaining the greenbelt so it remains safe and enjoyable for public use.

We hope this helps answer some of the questions and concerns that have been raised.

Sincerely,
Mayor Donald Powell

The City has received several questions regarding work occurring within public rights-of-way throughout town.

A private contractor is currently installing underground fiber infrastructure in various areas of the City. This work may include locating utilities, trenching, directional boring, and restoration of disturbed areas.

This is not a City project. The City is aware of the work occurring and is actively coordinating with the contractor regarding right-of-way use and applicable requirements.

Residents may notice temporary impacts such as:
• Equipment and crews working in neighborhoods
• Marked utility lines (paint/flags)
• Temporary disruptions to landscaping or sidewalks

If you have questions about work occurring near your property, you may contact the contractor directly:

🚜 Plows Are Rolling Again ❄️

City crews are heading back out to continue clearing streets.

If your vehicle is parked on the roadway, please move it as soon as possible. Clear streets allow operators to push snow curb-to-curb and prevent icy buildup overnight.

Slow down when approaching plow equipment and give operators plenty of room to maneuver. They may need extra space to turn around or back up.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help keep St. Anthony’s roads safe and passable.

City crews are beginning snow plowing operations immediately.

Please move all vehicles off city streets and avoid parking on roadways so crews can safely and efficiently clear snow. Vehicles left on the street slow operations and may be subject to citation or towing if they interfere with snow removal efforts.

Give plow operators plenty of space to work and use caution when traveling near equipment.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep our streets safe and accessible.

At the December 11, 2025 City Council meeting, the City Council approved restoring the speed limit on South Yellowstone Highway to 50 mph, beginning at approximately Wilmore Lumber / the canal heading south.

🚫❄️ Winter Parking Reminder – In Effect November 1 through March 1 ❄️🚫

Winter parking restrictions are now in effect to help our crews safely and efficiently clear snow from city streets.
